WPST & IA (Water Polo Sports Tour & International Academy), led by former water polo player and ex. coach & teammanager of the women’s Switzerland national team, Willi Dzodic, held a seven-day water polo camp in Vrnjacka Banja. Participants were water polo clubs Basel and Zurich (both men’s and women’s selections), who during their stay in Serbia trained and played friendly matches together, although it is known that they are big rivals.
During the camp, the women’s team played training sessions with VK Palilula and ZVK Red Star, while the guys faced VK Goc and mixed team of VK Belgrade and VK Singidunum. Besides trainings and matches, various social activities were organized for the participants in order to strengthen the team spirit.
Apart from Willi Dzodic, the main role in managing the training process had Serbian coaches – Aleksandar Vujovic as a head coach and Marko Jovanovic as a coach of goalkeepers. Tomislav Cirovic senior and Tomislav Cirovic junior were assistant coaches, while Nenad Milosevic and Srbo Sladic (WBK Stadtmannschaft Zürich) were coaches at training courses. With two trainings a day, the camp participants also had theoretical lectures, video analysis of matches and preparation of tactics for friendly games. This seven-day stay in Serbia was not organized only for the education and development of players but also coaches.
Camp Director and founder of WPST & IA, Willi Dzodic, said that he is going back to Switzerland with greatest memories from the Easter camp 2018.
– The motivation of the participants during the camp left me speachless. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. They came to ask us for additional trainings, although it was not planned. For theory lessons, they brought notebooks to capture notes and seemed to be maximally trying to absorb all the knowledge that coaches offer them. The progression in their skills after this week is amazing. I hope that they will keep this enthusiasm even after returning from the camp i da će sve naučeno da implementiraju u svoje svakodnevne treninge i igru – said the former coach of the women’s water polo team of Switzerland.
