The first game of the afternoon session saw the Netherlands drown Romania and recording a 29:0 win. Dutch girls took a 4:0 lead at the start, went on a break with 11:0, and became even more efficient later on, so the triumph was more than convincing, 29:0. Romanian squad had three opportunities with an extra player but failed to score. All Dutch water polo players managed to score, and they were led by Simone Van De Kraats who netted six.

After five matches without suspense, Novi Sad saw one which was much more exciting and Greece emerged as the winner against Great Britain, 13:11.
Greek girls had a 1:0 and 2:1 lead in the first quarter, and then managed to accomplish a bigger advantage and were leading with 6:3 in the middle of the second period. However, Great Britain was down by one at halftime (6:5). Greece then quickly scored three goals in a row and reached a four-goal advantage, but British team again made a comeback and brought down the deficit to two (10:8) before the final period. After two minutes of play in the last quarter, the result was 10:9, but Greece again enlarged the difference to three and eventually triumphed. Maria Myriokefalitaki was the game’s top scorer with five goals, while Anya Clapperton and Cecily Turner each netted three for Great Britain.

National teams of Italy and Serbia also triumphed convincingly in the first-round matches in Group A. Italy beat France, 28:0, while the hosting team overpowered the Czech Republic, 22:1.
Italian game was on point from the very, so their advantage was continuously increasing. The result was 15:0 at halftime and it was only a matter of time when the final result would be set. All players managed to score in this game as well, whereas Roberta Santapaola, Lucrezia Cergol, and Beatrice Clementi each netted four goals.

The Championship host achieved a big difference already in the first quarter when Serbia had a 6:1 lead. When it was 8:1 on the score board, the Czechs had an opportunity to score their second goal, but failed to seize the penalty chance. On the other side, the hosts continued to increase their advantage and went on a break with 12:1. Serbia kept playing on point and finished the game with a convincing win. Lara Luka was the top scorer with five goals, while Nina Josifovic, Nadja Novakovic and Janja Kaplarevic each netted four.
