Budapest, Hungary, July 20.— It’s decision day on the third day of women’s water polo at the FINA World Championships at the Alfred Hajos Pool here today.
Teams are playing their third and final group matches with group winners progressing to Monday’s quarter-finals while second and third teams go to the second round and the bottom teams in each group to play their 13-16 classification matches.
France was the first to earn a quarter-final berth, beating Japan 9-8 to finish third in Group C.
Greece followed suit with an exciting 11-8 victory over Australia, taking Group D and leaving Australia second after both finishing with two wins and a loss. Russia also finsihed with four points, beating Kazakhstan 15-6. However, goal differential proved king in the tiebreaker between the three, Greece +1, Australia 0 and Russia -1.
