On day two, morning session saw face-offs between the teams which were defeated in the first round.

In a very exciting match, Bulgaria edged out Portugal, 8:7. At the beginning, it didn’t seem that the result would be so narrow since Portuguese girls took a 3:1 and then also a 4:1 lead. Bulgaria was down by one at halftime (4:3), but able to take over the lead (5:4) after two minutes of play in the second half. However, the teams entered the last period tied (6:6). Bulgaria quickly netted two for a two-goal advantage (8:6) and managed to preserve the lead until the end of the game, although Portugal had an extra player situation on three occasions but failed to seize the opportunity and equalize. Viktoria Mincheva was the game’s top scorer with three goals.

In Serbia’s group, France beat the Czech Republic, 6:2. Both of these teams suffered a huge loss in their first Championship game, while today France took the lead a little over a minute before the end of the first quarter. After the Czechs equalized, they achieved 2:1 before the break, and entered the last quarter with a two-goal advantage (3:1). France was better in finding a solution in this tough game and secured the victory with two goals during the first four minutes of the fourth period. The winning team was led by Anais Sabouriaut who scored three goals, while Czech Daniela Vomastkova scored the only two goals of her team.

Israel was victorious against Turkey and came away with a nice 11:5 win. After five scoreless minutes, Israel took a 2:0 lead and even went on a break with 5:2. Turkish ladies managed to bring down the deficit to two, but Israeli players’ new goal streak followed creating a big difference and a 9:4 advantage, which meant they were close to their first victory. After two minutes of the last period, the result was 11:4, and Turkey was able to score only once before the end. In Israel’s squad, excellent Ofek Golan and Semon Hila Futorian netted three goals, as many as Dilara Burali did for Turkey.

Great Britain recorded the most convincing victory of the morning session, triumphing over Romania, 14:6. Romanian squad, however, kept parity in the first half. British ladies had a two-goal advantage in the first period, but Romania managed to equalize (4:4). Nevertheless, Great Britain then went ahead 7:4, and the halftime result was 7:5. Great Britain’s two goals in the third period eliminated all doubts about the winner, and the last quarter saw the difference get even bigger. The game’s top scorers were Cecily Turner and Milly Wordley with four goals, while Briana Mihaila and Claudia Pilica each added a pair for Romania.
